Frequently Asked Questions

How should I choose my surgeon?

The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable with your surgeon. You should have your questions answered in a thorough and understandable manner. Your surgeon should explain how and why they recommend a particular approach and what the risks and benefits of the surgery would be. Make sure that you and your surgeon are "on the same page". Your surgery should be tailored to your individual goals. Your surgeon will be able to tell you if your goals are realistic.

Secondly, look at the surgeon's qualifications. What sort of training have they had? Are they board certified in plastic surgery? Do they specialize in cosmetic surgery? To answer those questions, ask the doctor's office, look on the internet and talk to other people who have had surgery.

I heard that it is important for the surgeon to be Board Certified. What does this mean?

Board Certification is awarded to doctors who have not only completed rigorous, accredited training, but have gone on to successfully distinguish themselves through the passing of comprehensive examinations. It is a way for the public to see if a particular surgeon has maintained high standards for safe, ethical, and effective plastic surgery.

You should also look for the specific board that has issued the Board Certification. Not all Boards are alike. Only surgeons who are Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to manage the full spectrum of the entire specialty of plastic surgery.

Where do you perform your surgeries?

Surgeries are performed at a fully accredited surgery center, using licensed anesthesiologists. Having surgery at a surgery center, rather than in a back office, provides optimal anesthesia and nursing care. You can be sure that the highest standards of patient safety are maintained.

Is plastic surgery covered by insurance?

If the surgery is performed for cosmetic reasons, it is not covered by insurance. If surgery is done because it is medically necessary (for example, to correct deformities or functional impairment), it may be fully or partially covered by insurance. It is best to ask the office directly if you are still unsure.

Is the recovery from plastic surgery painful?

Every individual's pain threshold is different and different surgical procedures carry varying levels of discomfort. The great majority of our patients experience a minor level of discomfort that they tolerate without much difficulty. We are committed to making your experience as pleasant as possible. This includes clearly explaining what to expect after the surgery and using pain-numbing pumps that decrease postoperative pain. When asked if they would "do it all over again", the answer is usually a resounding "yes!".

I've heard so many conflicting reports in the media -- is plastic surgery dangerous?

All procedures carry some risk but complications arising from plastic surgery are rare. You should carefully weigh the risks and benefits of the surgery and make an informed decision. Your surgeon will go over the risks with you and answer any questions you might have.

Will my surgery be done outpatient (going home the same day as your surgery) or will I be admitted to the hospital?

Most of our surgeries are done outpatient, allowing you to recover in the comfort of your own home. If you prefer, we can arrange for a nursing assistant to help you during the initial stages of your recovery. In certain cases of extensive or complicated surgery, the surgeon will admit you to the hospital.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, certainly. Many people choose to finance part or all of their surgical costs. We offer several financing plans that can accommodate most people's needs. Click here to find out more.
