Dr. Filip became passionate about plastic surgery during medical school at the University of Arizona while researching regenerative and reconstructive biomaterials. He went on to train as a specialist in plastic surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center, graduating as Chief Resident.
Later, his research into facial aging gained national attention in popular media. Dr. Filip has also presented collaborative research on integrating multiple advanced breast reconstruction techniques. Dr. Filip has been a scientist his entire life, participating as a finalist at the International Science and Engineering Fair twice in high school.
As an artist Dr. Filip is an avid carpenter and enjoys woodworking, building furniture, and home improvement. “Many plastic surgeons draw or paint and I enjoy designing beautiful pieces. The real interest for me though is learning techniques to build something that is not only beautiful, but comfortable, fitting for the space, and durable for decades. Plastic surgery requires the same mindset.”
At home Dr. Filip cooks regularly and collects cookbooks. He also enjoys restaurants from fine dining to street food. Away from home Dr. Filip has traveled extensively to visit many of the world’s greatest museums and is an expert skier.
Dr. Filip had the privilege of operating with world-class craniofacial surgeons during a medical mission to the foothills of the Himalayas in India with Operation Good Samaritan.
